Act I - Birthing The Heroes To Life

Three characters were birthed through a shamanic vision quest – The Destroyer, The Healer and The Messenger. After hunting down the essence of the characters in the visions, Hunny brought them to life using various mediums. The costumes were designed using Saori weaving technique, mask sculpturing, and created the accompanying props for each of the characters.

The process was highly intuitive, and MK followed the images in our visions closely throughout the creation. As we sculpted the masks, we asked ourselves what the roles for each of the characters were. In doing so, we came to ask ourselves these questions about the characters:

The Destroyer: Destruction and creation happens simultaneously. The underlying energies of the destructive forces are equivalent to the creative forces of the Creator. They are two sides of the same coin. How do we come to terms with the darker impulses embedded into our psyche as human beings, and utilize them to creatively manifest our truest and greatest potential in life?

The Healer: What does it mean to heal somebody, a tribe, or a nation or the world? How do we allow healing to happen naturally in its rightful time and space, rather than intervening against forces beyond men?

The Messenger: What does it to be free? What does it mean to be a messenger and a guide for people, delivering the truth with a neutral stance despite the possible consequences and manifestations?

The characters were very universal, in that they fulfilled a fundamental role in the spirit of life. The final step of the creation was when we put on the costumes, and embodied the essence and roles of the characters. That’s when the deeper layers and textures in the characters were made known to us.

We begin to understand these questions when we donned the costumes in Act II: Tales of The Past I at Ulu Dong.
